The National Institute of Technology Common Entrance Test (NIMCET) is a national-level entrance examination conducted by the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) for admission to the Master of Computer Applications (MCA) program in NITs and other participating institutions. The NIMCET is a computer-based test (CBT) conducted in a single session of 2.5 hours.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the NIMCET, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Passed Bachelor of Engineering (BE) or Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in any branch of engineering or technology from a recognized university or college with a minimum of 50% marks (45% marks for SC/ST/PwD candidates).
  • Passed Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Computer Science or Information Technology from a recognized university or college with a minimum of 50% marks (45% marks for SC/ST/PwD candidates).
  • Passed Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) with Mathematics as a subject from a recognized university or college with a minimum of 50% marks (45% marks for SC/ST/PwD candidates).

Age Limit:

  • No age limit for the NIMCET.


  • Indian nationals only.

Other Eligibility Criteria:

  • Candidates must fulfill any additional eligibility criteria as prescribed by the specific NIT or participating institution.

The NIMCET consists of two sections:

Section I: Mathematics (100 marks)

  • Linear Algebra (20 marks)
  • Calculus (35 marks)
  • Discrete Mathematics (25 marks)
  • Probability and Statistics (20 marks)

Section II: Computer Science (100 marks)

  • Data Structures and Algorithms (35 marks)
  • Operating Systems (25 marks)
  • Computer Networks (25 marks)
  • Programming Languages (25 marks)
